Phase 1 - Club Manager Amanda Gates purchased multiple backgrounds, props, and other training material. We will hold workshops to help train the kids on their specific camera and the different techniques needed to take the different photography categories in our general competition.

Phase 2 - CAMERAS! We have purchased 3 Canon EOS 80 D cameras and MULTIPLE LENSES for the club members to use. They will be able to check out one of the cameras to take photos throughout the year (after a training session and signing a Equipment Rental Agreement).

Phase 3 - Workshops. We have plans for a spring and summer workshop AND more photography excursions to Shangri La Botanical Gardens and other locations.

10/5 Swamp Tour

Kirbyville Wildcat 4-H took a swamp tour in Orange, Texas. The experience was amazing. Twelve of our photography club members spent an hour and a half in a boat taking pictures for the Texas general photography competition.

Texas 4-H General Photography Competition has 18 different categories, including things like Wildlife, Landscape, Floral and Shadow. The tour gave the club members a variety of landscape and wildlife animals to photograph and were able to get several photography categories knocked out in just one trip.

Huge thanks to Swamp and River Tours in Orange, Texas for working with us on finding a date that works for everyone's busy schedule. The boat captain was amazing and very informative, and we truly enjoyed the entire trip. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to take a trip like that to contact them. It is totally worth it.

Thanks to parents for taking time out of their day for the kids to be able to take the trip down and as always, thanks to our sponsors every year for making things like these happen for our club.

Bio:

Kirbyville Wildcat 4-H Officer Takes on Texas 4-H Junior Master Photographer Program Two months ago, Kirbyville Wildcat 4-H Health and Safety Officer Jocelyn Fedoroff embarked on an exciting yet challenging journey: participating in the Texas 4-H Junior Master Photographer (JMP) Program.

This program is the first step toward becoming a Texas 4-H Master Photographer Ambassador, a prestigious role that requires immense dedication and skill. The JMP Program is widely regarded as one of the most difficult ambassador programs in Texas 4-H, but Jocelyn has shown exceptional determination in tackling its rigorous requirements. The JMP Program is designed to help young photographers deepen their knowledge and skills while fostering leadership and community service. However, the program’s intensity presents significant challenges.

Difficulties Faced

Time Commitment: Jocelyn has already attended two workshops in Dallas, each requiring travel, time, and focus. Balancing these workshops with her schoolwork, other 4-H projects, and extracurricular activities has been a significant challenge.

Skill Development: The program demands mastery of advanced photography techniques, such as manual camera settings, composition, lighting, and post-processing. Jocelyn has risen to the challenge, developing her skills through hands-on training and practice. Access to Equipment: Like many participants, Jocelyn has had to ensure she has access to high-quality cameras and editing tools, which are vital for meeting program standards. Portfolio and Leadership Requirements: Participants are required to create a professional portfolio and lead workshops to teach photography skills to younger 4-H members—both daunting tasks for those new to public speaking or instruction. Despite these challenges, Jocelyn is thriving in the program.

Achievements and Benefits

Through her hard work, Jocelyn has already begun reaping the rewards of the JMP Program: Community Service: Jocelyn recently provided photography services for Kirbyville’s Christmas in the Park, photographing over 40 families with Santa Claus. Her efforts raised funds for the Kirbyville Area Heritage Society, demonstrating how photography can positively impact her community.

Skill Enhancement: The workshops in Dallas have equipped Jocelyn with advanced skills, and her perfect score on the program’s test reflects her dedication to mastering the material.

Recognition and Career Preparation: Completing the JMP Program will position Jocelyn for future opportunities in photography and related fields. Her work also sets a strong foundation for becoming a Texas 4-H Master Photographer Ambassador. What’s Next? Jocelyn is now focusing on completing the remaining qualifications for the JMP Program.

With her hard work and determination, she is well on her way to achieving her goal and inspiring others along the way.  Her dedication to the program is a testament to her passion for photography and her commitment to the 4-H values of leadership and service. The Kirbyville Wildcat 4-H Club and her community are incredibly proud of Jocelyn’s accomplishments and look forward to seeing her complete this challenging and rewarding program.
