Club Manager Amanda Gates purchased multiple backgrounds, props, and other training material. We will hold workshops to help train the kids on their specific camera and the different techniques needed to take the different photography categories in our general competition. We have plans for a spring and summer workshop AND more photography excursions to Shangri La Botanical Gardens and other locations.
CAMERAS! We have purchased 3 Canon EOS 80 D cameras and MULTIPLE LENSES for the club members to use. They can be checked out to take photos throughout the year (after a training session and signing a Equipment Rental Agreement).

10/5 Swamp Tour
Kirbyville Wildcat 4-H took a swamp tour in Orange, Texas. The experience was amazing. Twelve of our photography club members spent an hour and a half in a boat taking pictures for the Texas general photography competition.
Texas 4-H General Photography Competition has 18 different categories, including things like Wildlife, Landscape, Floral and Shadow. The tour gave the club members a variety of landscape and wildlife animals to photograph and were able to get several photography categories knocked out in just one trip.
Huge thanks to Swamp and River Tours in Orange, Texas for working with us on finding a date that works for everyone's busy schedule. The boat captain was amazing and very informative, and we truly enjoyed the entire trip. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to take a trip like that to contact them. It is totally worth it.

4-H Role: Texas 4-H Photography Ambassador
Penelope King joined the Kirbyville Wildcat 4-H Club three years ago because she wanted to learn more about photography. What began as an interest soon became a passion that opened the door to competition, leadership, community service, and opportunities to represent 4-H at the county and state levels.
Throughout her 4-H journey, Penelope has participated in photography contests and photography judging, continually challenging herself to improve her technical knowledge and creative abilities. She has learned that successful photography requires more than taking a good picture—it demands an understanding of composition, lighting, camera settings, storytelling, and careful attention to detail.
Penelope’s dedication led her to the Texas 4-H Junior Master Photographer Program, an intensive program designed to strengthen participants’ photography, leadership, and teaching skills. Through the program, she has attended specialized training, expanded her knowledge, and learned how to share photography techniques with other 4-H members.
Her hard work ultimately earned her the opportunity to serve as a Texas 4-H Photography Ambassador. In this role, Penelope represents the Texas 4-H Photography Program, encourages other young photographers, shares her skills, and uses photography to serve her club and community. She has also used her talents to photograph community events and preserve meaningful moments for others.
Becoming a Texas 4-H Photography Ambassador is an important milestone in Penelope’s journey, but she views it as a new beginning rather than a finish line. She plans to continue developing her craft, helping younger photographers, and pursuing opportunities to use her camera as a tool for creativity, leadership, and service.
